Around a hundred aerial objects and two surface systems — still open
The US Navy reported approximately 100 aerial objects and two probably unmanned surface systems in an area off the Virginia coast. AARO listed the case as remaining under active analysis.

Why this is more interesting than most of the classics
This case has properties no 1950s case has: multiple objects simultaneously, contemporary sensors, an active institutional investigation, and existing digital data.
It also illustrates the most important change in the field since 2020: the boundary between “UAP” and “unknown drone” has ceased to be sharp. A substantial share of contemporary reports concerns unmanned systems with an undetermined operator — which is a national security problem regardless of who is flying them.
An element deserving separate attention
Surface systems. Until 2024 practically the entire UAP discussion concerned aerial objects. The appearance of probably unmanned surface vessels in official reporting opens a category for which neither procedures nor a historical corpus yet exist.
