A glowing ring in the soil that would not absorb water for years
A farm boy reported a mushroom-shaped object hovering and departing, leaving a glowing ring on the ground. The soil in the ring became strongly hydrophobic — it repelled water for years — and was analysed by several laboratories without agreement on a cause.
Official position
No federal investigation; Blue Book had closed. The case was examined by civilian scientists and by the University of Colorado's successor networks.
Alternative hypotheses
- A fungal ring — some soil fungi produce hydrophobic mycelium and grow in circles. The leading explanation, and disputed on the sharpness of the boundary and the depth of the effect.
- A chemical spill or agricultural residue.
- A genuine physical interaction with an unidentified object.

Delphos has what Roswell does not: material that was sampled, analysed and retained.
The ring’s soil repelled water so strongly that it could be floated. The effect persisted for years and was documented by more than one laboratory. Photographs were taken at the time.
The fungal explanation, taken seriously
Certain soil fungi form rings and produce hydrophobic mycelium. This is a real phenomenon, it is common, and it is the leading explanation.
Its difficulties are specific: the reported sharpness of the ring’s boundary, the depth to which the hydrophobicity extended, and the reported luminosity at the time of the event. None of these is decisive against the fungal reading, and honest treatment has to say so.
Why it sits where it does
Single young witness, no radar, no corroborating observer at the moment of the event. But the trace outlived the witness’s account by years and could be measured by strangers — which is exactly the property that makes Trans-en-Provence valuable, and exactly what abduction cases can never offer.
